'The Forgotten'
On an old display board, tucked away in a quiet corner on the forshore of Skegness, posters were once glued announcing forthcoming shows in a Skegness theatre. One poster glued on top of the other; layers and layers building up. Eventually the board was no longer used and was forgotten about. Tourists strolled past it, never giving it a second glance.
Over the years, the damp and time slowly took their toll. Differing parts of the posters, began to age and just peel away, revealing different shapes and colours from different underlying posters. Over time, a stern, partial face of a man appeared, looking directly out at us, angry and shouting as if for help; wanting to be rescued from this prison of Posters. Not wanting the slow decay to nothingness.
I have a picture of a beautiful woman. She was originally in a magazine, and for over 30 years she as stared out from her page, her beauty only rarely looked upon when the pages are opened and see the sun again. Again mainly forgotten with the passing of the decades.
I decided to give this man the company of this lovely lady (being unable to help him step from the tattered paper), in an attempt to lift his spirits and for her to be admired again, as she was intended! This odd couple, both forgotten and never thought of, are now united forever, happy sharing their world with each other and with others viewing them. They again have their visual purpose restored, and their reason for being.
I am sure one day his face will turn to a small smile, till that day, we just keep watching!
